CORINNE SMIT
ABOUT
Corinne Smit, theatre designer offers our clients custom-made wearable art costumes, headgear & props. Services include project management, design & fabrication.
Corinne Smit has worked across a wide variety of theatre productions and shows since she obtained her BA(FA) with merit from Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town in 2003.
She majored in media and visual studies and was soon invited to hold her first solo exhibition at rust and vrede gallery in Durbanville. Her clothing sculptures drew the attention of a well renowned costume designer in the theatre industry. From here on the doors opened to work on productions such as The Fire Raisers (2004), Amakhosi Africa (2008), and Lausanne 2010, 3rd Congress on World Evangelization (2010).
As costume props artist and project manager she loves the challenge of working with different mediums, custom designing the head-gear and costume props to be durable, light weight and comfortable for the actors, whilst taking into account that the actors need to have good vision, that their vocals need to be heard and that it is easy to assemble and dissemble their headgear and props during costume changes.
Besides her theatre work, she also works as a professional make-up artist, graphic designer, product designer and events manager.
